Applies to:
Oracle Forms - Version: 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.3.0
Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows Vista x64 (64-bit)
Goal
How to work / configure Forms 10.1.x when using Windows Vista as a Client?

Solution

Microsoft Vista is not certified to work with Forms 10.1.2.0.2 / Forms 10.1.2.2 versions.
"Not certified" means that even though you may see it working under certain circumstances, it is not guaranteed to work for all combinations.
On most occasions the combinations will fail if the combination used is not certified.

Basic requirements to work with Vista
==========================
1. To work with Microsoft Windows Vista, upgrade Forms to at least version 10.1.2.3 in the 10.1.2 range.
2. Windows Vista is supported as a client OS with Sun JRE and with IE 7.0 / Firefox 2.0 only.
3. Jinitiator is NOT certified to work with Windows Vista, and there are no plans to certify it.

To configure / work with Vista
=====================
A. Download and install the Forms patch
============================
To obtain a patch from Metalink:
1) Click on Patches.
2) Click on Simple Search.
3) Enter the patch number, 5983622 (for 10.1.2.3).
4) Select the platform from the list
5) Click Go.
6) Read any applicable notes before downloading, then click the Download button.
7) Review the Readme file for instructions on how to install the patchset.
Note: At the time of writing, the latest 10.1.2.x patchset is 10.1.2.3. Please check on Metalink or with Support whether a later patch release is available.

B. Configuring Sun JRE
================
To work with the Microsoft Vista you need to configure Sun's JRE.
If you have not configured any JRE, refer to the steps below.

Steps:
====
1. Create a new config section in formsweb.cfg for the JRE as mentioned below. As example, the name "Newconfig" is used. Use a name appropriate to your environment.

[Newconfig]
baseHTMLJInitiator=basejpi.htm
jpi_download_page=https://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.html
jpi_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA
jpi_codebase=http://java.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jinstall-1_5_0_16-windows-i586.cab#Version=1,5,0,16
jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.5.0_16

While running the URL you need to specify the particular config e.g. config=Newconfig
        http://<Host-Name>:<Port-Number>/forms/frmservlet?config=Newconfig

Note: You might want to configure a later version than 1.5.0_16 of JRE instead. If you are unsure which version to use, contact Oracle Support.

2. Download the JRE and install.
3. Run the application on Windows Vista using the config "Newconfig"

talvez atualizar o Jinitiator

Selecionar tudo

Applies to:
Oracle Forms - Version: 10.1.2.3.0
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
How to install / upgrade the Jinitiator?

Solution

The steps are listed as below 8 example based on jinitiator 1.3.1.28:-

1. Download and unzip the Jinit13128.exe on a Windows machine from the following Oracle Website
JInitiator Download Page
URL : http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/developer/htdocs/jinit.htm

2. Run the executable jinit13128.exe that should install this product on the Windows machine

3. Navigate to the folder: C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.28\doc\ and consider the following files to be copied as presented at point 6:
a)jinit_download.htm
b)jinit_tags.htm
c)jinit-version.ini
d)jinitiator.css

4. On the Forms Server navigate to the following folder:
ORACLE_HOME\jinit\ and copy here the jinit13128.exe executable

5. Here (in ORACLE_HOME\jinit\ )
create a new folder: jinit13128/>   mkdir jinit13128
Note: make sure that this is created by the user Oracle so that the Forms services will have access to this folder

6. In this new folder copy the 4 files identified at point 3.
Please consider bin transfer for files between Windows and Unix systems

7. After the previous step you should have the following configuration:
a) "ORACLE_HOME\jinit\" should contain:
-"us" directory (that existed before)
-"jinit13128" directory (that was created at point 5)
-"jinit.exe" file (that should have existed before)
-"jinit13128.exe" file (that was copied at point 4)

b)"ORACLE_HOME\jinit\jinit13128\" should contain the 4 files copied at point 6:
-jinit_download.htm
-jinit_tags.htm
-jinit-version.ini
-jinitiator.css

8. If the above configuration is correct then please backup and open the formsweb.cfg from
ORACLE_HOME/forms/server

9. At the bottom of this file add the following lines and save the file:
###
[jinit13128]
jinit_download_page=/forms/jinitiator/jinit13128/jinit_download.htm
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_classid=clsid:CAFECAFE-0013-0001-0028-ABCDEFABCDEF
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_exename=jinit13128.exe#Version=1,3,1,28
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_mimetype=application/x-jinit-applet;version=1.3.1.28
###
The configuration above will overwrite the settings from the [default] configuration and will determine users to download and use the 1.3.1.28 version of JInitiator

10. On a windows client (that does not have the JInitiator 1.3.1.28 installed already) run the following URL:
http://machine:port/forms/frmservlet?config=jinit13128&form=test.fmx

After executing this step, the user should be asked if he wants to install JInitiator 1.3.1.28 on his machine.
After the install access again the same URL in a new browser window and you should be able to access it directly (after accepting a new security certificate)
By checking the JInitiator Console Tray from the bottom right corner you should see that the first line is "Oracle JInitiator: Version 1.3.1.28"
This means that the configuration is correct.

11. The above steps were using a new configuration for JInitiator 1.3.1.28. If your tests were
successful you can implement JInitiator 1.3.1.28 in the default section.
This is done by replacing the JInitiator parameters from the [default] section with the ones from
the [jinit13128] section. After this steps is done, every user that is accessing your [default] section (or other sections that does not overwrite the Jinitiator parameters) should be asked to install/use Jinitiator 1.3.1.28

Please make a backup of your file before editing it.
